6th Grade

Sixth grade ELA builds students’ comprehension, analysis, and writing skills to prepare them for seventh grade success. Students will engage with multimodal texts, using evidence to support their claims and analyses. They will refine their ability to identify central themes, examine literary elements, and explore the impact of language on tone and meaning. Writing will incorporate argumentative and expository techniques, with a focus on peer editing and the writing process. Readings will include literary fiction, informational texts, and foundational works from mythology.

7th Grade

Seventh grade ELA builds on the foundations of sixth grade ELA to strengthen students’ comprehension, analysis, and writing skills and prepare them for eighth grade ELA. Students will engage with increasingly complex texts, specifically multimodal texts. They will use evidence from these sources to support their claims and analyses. They will explore themes, literary elements, and the impact of language on tone and meaning. Writing will incorporate argumentative and expository techniques, with a focus on peer editing and the writing process. Readings will include literary fiction, informational texts, and foundational works from mythology.

8th Grade

Eighth grade ELA builds on the foundations of sixth and seventh grade ELA to refine students’ reading, writing, and analytical skills and prepare them for high school. They will engage with increasingly complex texts, analyze themes and literary elements, and evaluate language, tone, and perspective. They will analyze multimodal texts and use evidence from these sources to support their claims and analyses. Writing instruction will emphasize crafting argumentative and expository essays, with a focus on the multi-step writing process. Readings include literary fiction, informational texts, and foundational works from mythology.
